The monograph on the WW2 German bombers Dornier Do 17 and Dornier Do 215 discusses their design, development and operational history. Each variant is specified and comprehensively described with coverage of changes made in its sub-variants, including the special modifications for the foreign recipients. Designed and built in the late 1930s, originally as reconnaissance and bomber plane, the Do 17/215 was also used as a night fighter equipped with radar systems. A large part of the book is devoted to the combat use of the aircraft in the Spanish Civil War, Poland, the Balkans and Russia together with the Western Campaign and Battle of Britain. A short account of the night fighting missions is also included.

Some good content but a lot of useless info.,

The technical info (drawings mainly) are great but the "service history" is noting more than a rambling mess of stories about pilots and how they were captured, marched half naked, fed bread by locals and other nonsense that has nothing to do with the aircraft's service. Next time, tell relevant stories about the history or leave it out and charge less,

This book is essentially a reprint with minor changes. Kagero is trying to double dip.

This is the 60th book (No. 3060) in Kagero's Monographs series. The book is an 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", square bound, 144 page card cover. The book is devoted to the Dornier Do 17/Do 215, one of three bombers the Luftwaffe started WWII with and the only one of the three that didn't serve to war's end.
The book breaks down into three parts. The first 100 pages are devoted to the background, design, development, and service history of the aircraft. The next 32 pages feature very high quality line drawings primarily in 1/72nd scale but with some fittings drawn bigger. There are a few pages of drawings in 1/96th scale detailing external differences between models. Color profiles and a few plans take up the remainder of the book and the rear cover.
All is excellent and well worth the asking price but I can only award three stars because of Kagero's occasional practice of double dipping (enticing the consumer to buy the same material twice) as in this case.
Seven years ago Kagero published a Do17/Do 215 book in this same series (it was number 39) with the same author. Are there major differences, justifying a new volume in the series? Sadly, no.
The differences are minor. There is a new cover painting. The current volume does not have the masking foil the original did. The text in the current volume is spread over 100 pages instead of the 92 of the original. This permits some additional photos to be added and in fact some photos have been reproduced at a smaller size to squeeze in some more. The drawings are identical but in the current book the Polish captions have been removed leaving only English. The are three additional pages of color profiles and as with the drawings the Polish captions have been removed.
In conclusion, I can only recommend this book if one doesn't already own the original in which case I highly recommend it. If one does own the original there is little point beyond obsessive completism (which I succumb to more often than I would like) to get this newer edition.

One of the best of this series

One of the best of this series. Overdue subject on WWII. Lots of black and white photos and color profiles are numerous and excellent. Liked description of use in WWII.
