Allan Siegel, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Neurology & Neurosciences, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School (Newark, NJ). His areas of research interest include neurobiology of aggression and rage; behavioral neuropharmacology; neuroanatomy; limbic system and behavior.

med students beware

The wide variety of topics covered in the book are great in terms of directing your studying. And the bank of five hundred questions is SUPER great for pinpointing your weak and strong spots in neuro. BUUUUT-- beware when you buy this, whoever edited the book must've been half asleep. there are SO MANY ERRORS IN THIS BOOK. Not so much in the actual medical information presented, but in HOW it is presented. for example, a couple of the explanations to the questions get randomly cut off, or abruptly change topic mid-sentence, as if someone copied and pasted a chunk of text into the wrong place. Another FREQUENT example-- many of the explanations will start off saying "the answer is X." but then in the subsequent explanation, the author is CLEARLY arguing for a different answer choice (which, if you are reading each explanation, is not hard to catch. but if you are just checking answers by letter and not reading the explanations, you could get a lot of incorrect facts from this book. Also, a few of the diagrams are mislabeled.
The weird thing is, my friend owns the 6th edition, so I've been checking with her about the mistakes I've found-- and among the questions that are in BOTH versions, many of the mistakes that are in this edition are not in the 6th edition......
